The 168 participants represent 120 different oldest known ancestors.

Of the 164 test results received, 118 have been grouped together into 9 groups. Participants are included in groups when their test results closely match other participants with whom they DO NOT share a known oldest ancestor. 19 other participants are in included in a category referred to as UnGrouped Matches (UGMs). UGMs are participants who closely match other participants with whom they DO share a known oldest ancestor.

Group 1 (Blair of Blair descendants) consists of 46 participants with 34 different oldests known ancestors. This group appears to share a common ancestor with the only known descendant of the original Blair of Blair.

Group 2 consists of 10 participants, with 8 different oldests known ancestors.

Group 3 now has 23 participants, with 17 different oldests known ancestors. This group consists of 18 participants who have a value of 26 on marker 2, a value that is very rare, and 5 participants who have a value of 25 on marker 2.

Group 4 has 11 participants, with 10 different oldests known ancestors.

Group 5 (Blair of Ladymuir) consists of 14 participants, with 11 different oldests known ancestors.

Group 6 consists of 4 participants with 4 different oldests known ancestors.

Group 7 consists of 3 participants with 2 different oldests known ancestors.

Group 8 consists of 3 participants with 3 different oldests known ancestors.

Group 9 consists of 4 participants with 3 different oldests known ancestors.

UGMs consist of 19 participants with 9 different oldest known ancestors.

Information Release Form
Blair DNA Project policy forbids the release of any participant information, other than participant ID, oldest ancestor, and marker values, without written permission of the participant. All participants are encouraged, but not required, to fill out and sign an Information Release Form with contact information. Each participant chooses exactly what information he or she wishes to provide. So far 55 participants have signed the Release. If you have not yet done so, please consider filling one out. Each participant in this DNA project has an FTDNA webpage. It can be reached at:

where xxxx is your kit number (participant ID) and yyyyy is a security code provided to you by FTDNA when your kit was received by FTDNA. If you do not have your security code, contact me and I'll give it to you.

Your Webpage has several sections: Y-DNA Matches, Recent Ethnic Origins, Haplogroup, and Y-DNA DYS Values. Each of these is explained in detail on the Webpage. The two you should be most interested in are Y-DNA DYS Values and Y-DNA Matches. The Y-DNA DYS Values lists your marker values and the Y-DNA Matches lists other participants who match your markers 12 for 12, 11 for 12, 25 for 25, 24 for 25, or 23 for 25. It will only show matches with those who have signed the FTDNA Release Form when they submitted their DNA sample. Initially it will only show matches within the surname project, but I'll explain how to change this later.
